Špilja Rača

The cave of Rača is a protected geomorphological nature monument. Located on the hill of Rača glava, it is approximately 70 meters long, and it includes several halls and passages with impressive forms of stalactites and stalagmites. The oldest evidence of man’s presence on the island was found in this cave, ranging from the Early Stone Age to the Bronze Age to the settlement of Croatian islands in the Adriatic during the Hellenistic period.
Today, bats and bat colonies live in the cave. There are as many as 16 bat species on the island of Lastovo.
